Mixposure Update

I reading around the forums, there are a number of worried people about Mixposure, or better, the lack of Mixposure and any news of what happened. My bud, Robert Forbes (RedEyeC), sent me a link to Soundclicks where Lexn copied a response from Kyle, the moderator, here’s what he said….

“We ran into a bit of a shituation with the server admin geek. Just after the attacks he informed me of a few queries that were vulnerable and suggested that I go through all of my queries to make sure that they were secure. We’re talking about 500 pages of code, but I dove in. At about day three of tinkering I found that the source of the problem was actually from permission levels on the directories that allow uploads. Every folder that was open for public uploads wound up having a few bonus files to the tune of “change this server variable to this,..change this one to that…”. The rest of the folders were unaffected so I cleaned out the garbage and felt pretty confident that we were good to go. In the meantime the server admin caught wind of the site being used once again by hackers. I let him know what I found and told him that I’d removed all of the problem files, but Geeky McDorkerton just couldn’t bear the fact that I was proving him wrong. He insisted that the reason we were attacked is because of the queries, and when I forwarded him some articles from Google that matched our attack symptoms to a T it only made his glasses fog up over the tape holding them together. I know the guy’s type so I really was wearing kitten gloves,..but it was pointless. When I askled if he found it a little odd that only the 12 directories with upload permissions out of the 700+ total were attacked he assured me it was sheer coinkadink, and that I’m a moron. He then proceeded to tell me it was doubtful the site would ever go live on their servers again, and I had to beg and plead just to get enough time to backup the data before he finished his tantrum with a format of the drive. In the short time I was given I managed to get everything squared away except for (ugghhhh),…the songs. That’s a killer!
I’m currently looking for a new home but there is much that needs to be done before it goes live. Oh, here’s one you can file under the “be careful what you wish for” category: the whole time that I’ve been working on the upgrade I’ve been thinking to myself, “Man, it would sure be great to just shut the site down and restart from scratch instead of trying to patch
everything in and around itself”. …Ooops! Why couldn’t I have been
thinking, “Man, I could sure go for some prime rib about now!”? It really will be handy to have the site offline; the only problem is that an offline site makes about as much money as a mime telemarketer so I’m once again taking on design jobs to keep the bills paid while trying to put aside enough nest-egg for new hosting. I’m sure it’ll all work out in the wash. I pretty much count on some upset members; hopefully the new site will be shiny enough to appease them. “
Hope you find this at least encouringing.William

What I read elsewhere is that in this time of vulnerability, a new owner basically took over Mixposure. My experience with the new owners has been awful. The woman is a complete airhead, to put it kindly, and trolls around on another site all day long, ruining multiple threads on there. Not to mention the terrible customer service from her at the new Mixposure. Don’t bother with the new Mixposure, you’ll be wasting your time.
